Yes that’s right… for my inquiry I will be doing an inquiry on ramen. A foodie friend and I have talked about getting together and making ramen all semester long and have had a bit of obsession with ramen. So we thought, why not do an inquiry on it! Ramen is a ‘cheap’ food, but can also be quite expensive… buying ramen noodle packets are a staple for many in life, and it can certainly be spiced up with additional ingredients.
We are still in the very early stages of our inquiry, so not too much has been discussed on the presentation and such or the fine details. But what excites me about this is that it has to do with cooking. Cooking is so incredibly useful in life. Not only do we need to eat in order to survive, food is what brings people together! Dinner tables are where conversations happen. Throughout my 28 years of life, I can always rely on the topic of food when I don’t know what to talk about with people, because everybody eats.
Ramen noodles are a staple in college life for many, so why not teach how to cook it to our children and youth? Not only must we teach them to just make ramen, but we can also teach them create ramen diversity! You can cook ramen traditionally with added veggies and an egg, or you can cook it non-traditionally with chicken nuggets!
My next steps in the inquiry project will be learning the history of ramen, researching different ways to prepare it, and how to create an effective way to teach how to cook safely. I will be creating a lesson plan with my partner so that other teachers can use the lesson plans for their future cooking classes!
My current favourite ramen brand is Buldak Ramen, cheese flavour. I only use 1/10th of the spicy sauce because it is SOOO spicy! I also add cream cheese and bread crumbs. This is a broth free ramen that is sooo cheesy and spicy. I just love the texture of the noodles (they must not be too soft) and the crunch from the breadcrumbs give added texture. I must admit this is originally my boyfriend’s recipe. We eat this about once or twice a week…
Here is a fun youtube video by a youtuber that reviews best ways to make instant ramen that I enjoyed watching!

Hi Ami!
How cool that both you and Sandy have partnered up to do a joint inquiry on ramen! I think it is a fun topic and I am excited to learn more about the history! I never knew you were such a ramen lover-what a cool interest 🙂
I bet there would be ways to incorporate making ramen into other subjects in your class which would be pretty fun! I wonder if you are going to experiment trying different types of ramen? Are you also wanting to make ramen completely from scratch? Or are you looking into ways to add ingredients and things to instant ramen packs?
It sounds like there is a lot to explore in the wonderful world of ramen and I am looking forward to reading more! 🙂
